Who He Is
Born in 1902 in Germany, he never met his biological father which may be why he decided to study behavior and development to begin with. He died in 1994.
Importance to Human Development and Education
From his study of children of different ages, Erikson has helped educators better understand the different stages children go through and in turn become more patient with the children as they work through conflicts and problems common for that age group.
Theories or Famous Experiments
The most famous theory that Erikson worked on was the theory of psychosocial stages. Erikson believed that over the years children entered different stages of psychosocial development, and each stage helped explain the child's behavior. Look at the chart below to learn more about each of the stages.

"Children love and want to be loved and they very much prefer the joy of accomplishment to the triumph of hateful failure. Do not mistake a child for his symptom." -Erik Erikson
